A Care Home in Worthing That Continues to Evolve

At The Victoria Grand, we believe that a good care home should feel like much more than somewhere to live. It should be a place where people feel comfortable, respected and supported, with opportunities to enjoy their interests, spend time with others and make the most of each day.

That is why we have continued to invest in improvements throughout our home during 2025 and 2026.

Our recent enhancements include newly refurbished bedrooms, updated bathroom facilities, improvements to our conservatory, refreshed communal areas and innovative Nobi smart lighting in selected rooms to support resident safety.

These improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to maintaining a comfortable, welcoming environment while recognising that the small details of everyday life can make a real difference.

Investing in Comfort, Safety and Wellbeing

A care home’s environment plays an important role in how residents feel each day. We want The Victoria Grand to be a place where people can feel comfortable in their own rooms while also enjoying the shared spaces and activities that help make a home feel welcoming.

Thoughtful Improvements to Our Bedrooms

We have continued to refresh individual bedrooms with improvements to flooring, decoration, lighting and bathroom facilities. These updates help maintain attractive, practical living spaces where residents can bring their own belongings and make their rooms feel personal.

Selected rooms also benefit from en-suite wetrooms or other convenient washing facilities, depending on the accommodation.

Nobi Smart Lighting to Support Resident Safety

We have introduced Nobi smart lighting into a number of bedrooms. This technology is designed to illuminate the room when a resident gets out of bed and can detect falls, alerting the care team when assistance may be needed.

It is one example of how thoughtful technology can complement the work of our care team. Just as importantly, technology does not replace the human side of care: attentive staff, reassurance and personal interaction remain central to life at The Victoria Grand.

Victoria Grand Nobi Lights

A Refurbished Conservatory for Relaxation and Socialising

Our conservatory has undergone significant improvements, including a new roof, updated electrics, fresh paintwork and comfortable seating.

Overlooking the gardens, it provides a bright, welcoming environment for residents to relax, enjoy a conversation, read, take part in activities or spend time with visiting family and friends.

We have also arranged the space into different areas to accommodate quieter moments, social activities, creative pursuits and entertainment.

Food, Dining and Everyday Enjoyment

Mealtimes are an important part of daily life in a care home. They offer opportunities to enjoy good food, maintain routines and spend time with others.

Our kitchen facilities have benefited from improvements, and we are proud to have achieved a five-star food hygiene rating. We continue to recognise the importance of food safety, nutrition and creating an enjoyable dining experience.

Alongside these improvements, our home has benefited from further investment in facilities, safety systems, accessibility and staff training.

We believe that maintaining a good residential environment means paying attention to both the visible improvements and the practical details that support residents every day.

More Than Accommodation: A Community to Be Part Of

Choosing a care home is not just about finding a suitable room. It is also about finding somewhere that supports social connection, personal interests and a sense of belonging.

At The Victoria Grand, we provide opportunities for residents to enjoy activities and shared experiences according to their interests and abilities.

Our activities and events include arts and crafts, games, music, live entertainment, animal visits, garden outings and seasonal celebrations. Our conservatory provides an additional space for residents to come together, while also allowing for quieter activities and relaxation.

We recognise that everyone has different preferences. Some residents enjoy lively group activities and conversation, while others prefer reading, spending time with visitors or enjoying a peaceful moment.

Our aim is to offer opportunities to participate and connect without losing sight of individual choice.

We also believe that links with the wider community are valuable. Through initiatives such as Friends of Victoria Grand, we are working to encourage connections with local people, groups and organisations.

For residents and families considering a move, these everyday experiences are an important part of understanding what life in a care home can look like.

Respite Care in Worthing: Short-Term Support When It Is Needed

Not everyone looking for a care home is planning a permanent move.

Respite care in Worthing can provide a short-term residential stay for someone who needs temporary support, while also giving family members and regular carers time to rest or attend to other commitments.

Respite care may be worth exploring when:

  • A family carer needs a planned break or holiday.
  • Someone would benefit from temporary support following a change in circumstances.
  • A family wants to explore residential care before making a longer-term decision.
  • Additional support is needed for a limited period.

Every person’s circumstances are different, and the suitability of a respite stay depends on their individual care needs and the support the home can provide.

At The Victoria Grand, we welcome enquiries from families considering respite care and can discuss the available rooms, potential dates and individual requirements.

A conversation with our team is a helpful first step towards understanding whether a short-term stay could be suitable for you or your loved one.

Find out more about our respite care in Worthing and contact us to discuss your requirements.

Long-Term Residential Care in Worthing

For some people, there comes a time when living independently is becoming more difficult and additional day-to-day support would be beneficial.

Long-term residential care in Worthing can offer a supportive living environment for people who need assistance with everyday activities and would benefit from having care available throughout the day and night.

Moving into a care home is a significant change, and it is natural for individuals and families to have questions. The right decision should take account of personal preferences, care requirements, the available accommodation and the opportunities to maintain relationships and interests.

At The Victoria Grand, we encourage prospective residents and their families to visit, explore the home and talk to our team about what matters most to them.

We can discuss individual needs, the accommodation currently available and the next steps involved in considering a long-term residential stay.

Our aim is to help families make an informed decision and feel more confident about the options available.

Choosing a Care Home in Worthing or West Sussex: What Should You Consider?

If you are comparing care homes in Worthing and the wider West Sussex area, it can be helpful to look beyond the bedroom itself.

Consider the following questions when arranging visits:

1. What level of care and support is available?

Explain the individual’s circumstances and ask whether the home can support their particular needs, both now and as those needs change.

2. Does the accommodation feel comfortable?

Look at the available rooms, bathroom facilities, natural light, accessibility and opportunities to personalise the space.

3. What is daily life like?

Ask about meals, activities, social opportunities, visitors and how residents can continue enjoying their interests.

4. How does the home approach safety and independence?

Find out about staff support, relevant safety features and how residents are encouraged to maintain their independence while receiving appropriate assistance.

5. Can the home accommodate a respite or long-term stay?

Check current availability, the proposed dates, the level of support required and the arrangements for discussing care and fees.

6. Do you feel comfortable with the team and surroundings?

A visit gives you the opportunity to meet staff, ask questions and gain a better understanding of the atmosphere of the home.

At The Victoria Grand, we welcome these conversations. We understand that families need clear information and time to consider their options before making a decision.

Transforming Care and Comfort: The Victoria Grand Care Home’s 2026 & 2025 Enhancements

Transforming Care and Comfort The Victoria Grand Care Home’s 2025 Enhancements

At The Victoria Grand Care Home in Worthing, we take pride in offering a warm, welcoming and supportive environment where every resident feels at home. Throughout 2026 and 2025, we have continued to invest in our facilities, improve our living spaces and introduce new initiatives designed to enhance residents’ comfort, safety, wellbeing and quality of life.

From refurbished bedrooms and upgraded safety features to innovative Nobi Smart Lights, improvements to our dining facilities and the launch of Friends of Victoria Grand, each enhancement reflects our commitment to providing a comfortable, caring and engaging place to live.

We believe that a great care home is about more than the building itself. It is about the people, the surroundings, the food, the activities and the opportunities residents have to enjoy meaningful connections every day.

Here is a look at how The Victoria Grand has continued to develop throughout 2025 and 2026.

Modernising Our Living Spaces

Creating comfortable, attractive and practical bedrooms is an important part of making our residents feel at home. We have continued to refurbish individual rooms throughout The Victoria Grand, with improvements to flooring, decoration, lighting and bathroom facilities.

During 2026 and 2025, a number of bedrooms benefited from enhancements including wooden flooring, modernised en-suite bathrooms and wetrooms. We also refreshed fixtures and fittings in selected rooms and upgraded radiators where needed.

Victoria Grand Care Home Rooms

Room 23: A Complete Refurbishment

Room 23 has undergone a complete refurbishment, including new wooden flooring and a new en-suite toilet. These improvements create a fresh, modern and comfortable living space, while making everyday facilities more convenient for the resident.

The room also benefits from Nobi Smart Lighting technology, reflecting our wider investment in solutions that support residents’ safety and wellbeing.

Refurbished Rooms 9 and 10

Rooms 9 and 10, both situated on the first floor opposite the bathroom, have also been completely refurbished. These are rooms with a wash hand basin, and the improvements include new flooring, fresh paintwork and updated lighting.

We have also repainted Room 11, continuing our programme of refreshing bedrooms and maintaining a clean, bright and welcoming environment throughout the home, creating pleasant surroundings that residents can feel comfortable and proud to call home.

Investing in Resident Safety with Nobi Smart Lights

Safety remains a priority at The Victoria Grand, and we are continually exploring ways to combine attentive personal care with thoughtful technology.

We have introduced Nobi Smart Lights into a number of resident bedrooms. These innovative ceiling lights incorporate intelligent technology designed to support safer movement, particularly during the night.

The system can automatically illuminate a room when a resident gets out of bed, helping improve visibility and reduce the risk of trips caused by poor lighting. It can also detect falls and alert the care team, helping staff respond when assistance may be needed.

Nobi technology is designed to work discreetly within the room, supporting residents’ independence without requiring them to wear additional devices.

Importantly, technology is there to support our care team, not replace the kindness, attention and personal interaction that are central to life at The Victoria Grand.

By investing in these smart lighting solutions, we are taking another step towards providing an environment where residents can feel more confident and families can have additional reassurance.

A Beautiful, Bright Conservatory: A Heart for Community Life

One of the standout improvements during 2025 was the refurbishment of our large conservatory.

The work included a new roof, updated electrics, fresh paintwork and comfortable new seating, transforming the conservatory into a bright, airy space filled with natural light.

Overlooking our tranquil gardens, with their greenery and lovely palm tree, the conservatory provides a pleasant setting for residents to relax, socialise and enjoy time together.

In 2026, we have continued to make the most of this valuable communal space by rearranging the conservatory lounge into distinct areas to suit different interests and activities.

Creating Spaces for Different Activities

Rather than using the entire conservatory as one large seating area, we have arranged it to provide a variety of more purposeful spaces.

  • Activities and creative pursuits: An area where residents can take part in organised activities, arts and crafts, games and other shared experiences.

  • Relaxation: Comfortable seating where residents can sit back, enjoy the surroundings or simply spend some quiet time.

  • Reading and quieter moments: A more peaceful area for reading, enjoying a newspaper or taking a break from busier activities.

  • Socialising and conversation: Seating arranged to encourage residents to chat, spend time with friends and welcome visiting family members.

  • Entertainment and events: Space that can accommodate group entertainment, musicians, performers and special gatherings.

This more considered layout allows residents to choose how they want to spend their time, whether they feel like joining an activity, having a conversation or enjoying a quieter moment.

The conservatory will continue to play an important role in our programme of activities and entertainment, providing a welcoming setting for music, performances, celebrations and opportunities to bring people together.

The Victoria Grand Conservatory

Refreshing Our Dining Room for a Better Mealtime Experience

Mealtimes are an important part of daily life at The Victoria Grand. They provide nourishment, routine and opportunities for residents to enjoy good food and spend time together.

We have begun refurbishing our dining room, with plans for new wood-effect laminate flooring and fresh paintwork to create a brighter, more welcoming environment.

The dining room is south-facing, benefiting from natural light that will complement the refreshed décor and flooring.

As the refurbishment progresses, our aim is to create a pleasant setting where residents can enjoy their meals in comfort and where mealtimes continue to be an enjoyable part of the day.

This work builds on the improvements already made to our kitchen facilities, including updated worktops, appliances and lighting, helping our team prepare meals in a well-equipped environment.

Together, these improvements reflect our belief that the quality of a care home experience includes not only the food residents enjoy but also the surroundings in which they eat.

Celebrating Our Five-Star Food Hygiene Rating

We are delighted to have achieved a five-star food hygiene rating, recognising the high standards of food safety and hygiene maintained at The Victoria Grand.

Food is an essential part of residents’ health, comfort and enjoyment. We understand the importance of providing meals that are nutritious, appetising and suited to individual dietary needs, while maintaining appropriate standards throughout food preparation and service.

Our kitchen improvements have supported our ongoing focus on providing a clean, well-maintained and practical working environment. Updated worktops, appliances and lighting have helped enhance the facilities used by our team.

Achieving a five-star rating is an important milestone and a welcome recognition of our commitment to food hygiene. It also reflects the importance we place on safe food handling, cleanliness and good kitchen practices.

Our approach to mealtimes goes beyond hygiene alone. We aim to provide fresh, enjoyable meals that support residents’ nutritional needs, taking account of individual preferences and dietary requirements wherever possible.

We are proud of this achievement and will continue working to maintain the standards that help residents and their families feel confident in the food and dining experience we provide.

Enhancing Safety and Accessibility Throughout the Home

Ensuring the safety and comfort of our residents is at the heart of everything we do. Across 2025 and 2026, we have continued to review and improve facilities, equipment and safety measures throughout the home.

During 2026 and 2025, our improvements included:

  • Scheduled lift enhancements and comprehensive safety checks.

  • A five-year electrical compliance review, including new wiring where required.

  • Structural improvements connecting outbuildings to the main house and roof improvements.

  • Upgrades to call systems and fire and smoke detection.

  • Bathroom and plumbing repairs.

  • Improvements to the downstairs toilet, including a new accessible toilet and flooring.

  • Enhanced signage to help residents navigate the home.

A New Safety Door on the First Floor

More recently, we have installed a new safety door on the first floor.

The door uses a combination-controlled access system to help maintain residents’ safety while allowing authorised access. It has been designed to preserve access to the lift, helping residents and staff continue to move around the home conveniently.

Importantly, the door is configured to open automatically when the fire alarm sounds, supporting emergency evacuation arrangements.

This improvement is part of our ongoing commitment to balancing appropriate safety measures with residents’ comfort, accessibility and freedom of movement.

We will continue to maintain and review our facilities so that residents, visitors and team members can feel reassured by the environment around them.

Improving Our Laundry Facilities

We have also enhanced the laundry cupboards on both the first floor and the ground floor.

Laundry facilities are an essential but often overlooked part of a care home’s daily operation. Well-organised, practical spaces help our team manage residents’ clothing, linen and other laundry needs more efficiently.

These improvements form part of our wider programme of maintaining the behind-the-scenes facilities that help the home run smoothly and support residents’ everyday comfort.

From bedrooms and bathrooms to laundry areas and communal rooms, we recognise that every part of the building plays a role in providing a welcoming and well-maintained home.

Enhancing Comfort and Convenience

Alongside our larger refurbishment projects, we have continued to make practical improvements throughout The Victoria Grand.

These include:

  • Updated kitchen worktops, appliances and lighting.

  • New bedding and mattress protectors where appropriate.

  • Refreshed communal areas and improved entertainment facilities.

  • New stones to help protect the lawn from vehicle parking.

  • Wi-Fi throughout the home, helping residents stay connected with family, friends and the wider world.

We have also made smaller decorative improvements, including seasonal touches in the hallway and updates to shared spaces.

We believe that attention to these everyday details makes a difference. A comfortable bedroom, a pleasant lounge, well-maintained facilities and opportunities to stay connected all contribute to the experience of living at The Victoria Grand.

The Victoria Grand Care Home

Activities That Inspire, Engage and Delight

A fulfilling life in a care home is about far more than practical support. Opportunities to enjoy hobbies, share experiences and build friendships are equally important.

Throughout 2025 and 2026, our activity programme has continued to offer a varied mix of experiences designed to encourage social interaction, enjoyment and participation.

Activities have included:

  • Animal visits that bring warmth and enjoyment.

  • Musicians and live entertainment.

  • Arts and crafts sessions.

  • Garden outings and gentle exercise.

  • Games, quizzes and other shared activities.

  • Seasonal celebrations, themed parties and social gatherings.

Our refurbished conservatory provides additional opportunities to organise activities in a bright and comfortable setting, with areas that can be adapted to suit different interests and group sizes.

We recognise that every resident has individual preferences. Some enjoy lively group activities, while others prefer quieter pursuits or one-to-one interaction. Our aim is to provide opportunities for residents to take part in ways that suit their interests and abilities.

We believe that meaningful connections can enrich life at any age. By welcoming people from the wider Worthing community into our home, we hope to create opportunities for friendship, shared experiences and activities that everyone can enjoy.

Investing in Our People, Training and Quality Standards

Our team is at the heart of The Victoria Grand. The improvements we make to our facilities are important, but it is the people who work here who bring our caring environment to life.

During 2026 and 2025, we welcomed new members to our care team and a new Marketing Manager, while continuing to place a strong emphasis on staff development and training, including face-to-face training sessions.

We also invested in the development of our Activities Coordinator, who completed first aid training and a number of other essential courses relevant to working in a care home environment.

This additional training has helped broaden the support she can provide during key parts of the day, including breakfast and lunchtime, when residents may need assistance with meals and general wellbeing.

By developing skills across the team, we can work collaboratively to support residents’ daily routines and help ensure that care staff have more opportunities to focus on personalised, one-to-one care.

Our approach is centred on teamwork, responsiveness and continuity. Familiar team members who understand residents’ routines, preferences and needs play an important role in creating a reassuring and supportive environment.

Our ISO Accreditations

In 2025, we achieved ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 accreditation.

These internationally recognised standards relate to quality management, environmental management, and occupational health and safety.

  • ISO 9001: Supports organised quality management systems and a focus on continual improvement.

  • ISO 14001: Reflects our commitment to managing our environmental responsibilities.

  • ISO 45001: Supports effective health and safety management.

Together, these accreditations form part of our wider commitment to responsible management, safe working practices and continuous improvement throughout the home.

We have also introduced a new website, developed an updated brochure and provided staff with new name badges, helping us present a consistent and welcoming identity to residents, families and visitors.

Looking Ahead: Our Ongoing Commitment to Improvement

The progress made throughout 2025 and 2026 reflects our commitment to continually developing The Victoria Grand.

Our work is not limited to major refurbishments. It includes maintaining bedrooms, improving shared spaces, investing in safety features, supporting our staff and creating opportunities for residents to enjoy meaningful activities and relationships.

Our ongoing programme of improvements will continue to focus on the things that matter most to residents and their families: comfortable surroundings, a safe and supportive environment, enjoyable meals, compassionate care and a fulfilling daily life.

We are proud of what we have achieved so far and look forward to continuing this work.

Achieving a 5-Star rating places The Victoria Grand at the very top of this scale.

However, a 5-Star rating is about much more than simply having a spotless kitchen.

How Is a Food Hygiene Rating Decided?

During a food hygiene inspection, an authorised food safety officer from the local authority assesses three important areas.

1. Hygienic Handling of Food

This looks at how food is handled throughout the preparation process, including how it is prepared, cooked, reheated, cooled and stored.

Safe food storage is particularly important in a busy care home kitchen, where a wide variety of fresh, chilled and frozen ingredients are handled every day.

Our recent investment in improved food storage is therefore an important part of our continued commitment to food safety.

2. The Condition of the Kitchen and Facilities

The inspection also considers the physical condition of the food preparation environment, including areas such as:

  • Cleanliness
  • Layout and organisation
  • Lighting
  • Ventilation
  • Facilities and equipment
  • Plus more

Maintaining a well-organised kitchen makes it easier for our team to work efficiently while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

3. Food Safety Management

The inspection also looks at how food safety is managed, including the processes, training and systems a business has in place to make sure good hygiene standards are maintained.

This is an important part of achieving a 5-Star rating because food safety needs to be built into everyday operations rather than being something that is only considered when an inspection takes place.

The Food Standards Agency explains that achieving the top rating requires a business to perform well across all three elements of the inspection.

Why Is a 5-Star Rating Such an Important Achievement for a Care Home?

Food safety is important in every environment where food is prepared and served, but it has particular significance within a care home.

Our residents are at the heart of everything we do, and ensuring that they receive safe, nutritious and high-quality food is an important part of their overall wellbeing.

The Food Standards Agency recognises that the type of customers served is one of the factors considered when determining the potential risk associated with a food business, including whether it serves vulnerable groups.

That makes maintaining excellent food hygiene standards particularly important in a care setting.

A 5-Star rating gives our residents, their families and visitors additional reassurance that food hygiene is taken seriously at The Victoria Grand.

It demonstrates that our standards were found to be very good at the time of inspection, across food handling, the condition of our facilities and our food safety management systems.

Investing in Our Kitchen and Food Storage

Our 5-Star rating comes alongside a series of recent improvements to our kitchen and food storage facilities.

We are continually looking at ways to improve our facilities and make sure our kitchen team has the right environment and equipment to maintain high standards.

Bringing Food Storage Into the Home

One of the most significant improvements has been relocating food storage that was previously held in an external storage unit.

We have now brought this food storage fully into the Home and kitchen environment.

This provides our team with much easier access to ingredients while improving organisation, stock control and the overall efficiency of our catering operation.

Keeping food storage within the Home also means our kitchen team has greater oversight of ingredients and can manage stock more effectively as part of their everyday food safety procedures.

Upgrading Our Fish and Seafood Freezer

We have also invested in a new and improved commercial freezer specifically for fish and seafood, replacing our previous unit with upgraded equipment better suited to our current kitchen operation.

Having dedicated storage for fish and seafood allows these products to continue to be kept separately from other frozen food, supporting good food hygiene practices and helping our team manage ingredients safely and efficiently.

New Fridge and Storage Shelving

Further improvements have included new fridge and cupboard shelving, providing additional organisation and making better use of our available storage space.

These seemingly simple improvements can make a significant difference to the day-to-day running of a professional kitchen, helping our team keep ingredients organised, maintain good stock rotation and work efficiently.

Together, these enhancements have helped us create a more streamlined, organised and efficient kitchen environment.

What Does This Mean for Our Residents?

Ultimately, our investment in the kitchen is about our residents.

Good food is an important part of life at The Victoria Grand. Mealtimes provide an opportunity to enjoy nutritious food, socialise with other residents and enjoy dishes that are familiar and comforting.

Our kitchen team works hard to prepare meals that are enjoyable while taking into account residents’ individual needs and preferences.

Behind every meal is a process that starts with the safe storage of ingredients and continues through preparation, cooking and service.

Our recent improvements help support that process from beginning to end.

Food Safety Is an Ongoing Commitment

While we are incredibly proud to have achieved a 5-Star Food Hygiene Rating, we also recognise that food hygiene is not something that can simply be ticked off a list.

The Food Standards Agency describes a food hygiene rating as a snapshot of the standards found at the time of inspection, while businesses remain responsible for complying with food hygiene law at all times.

For our team, achieving five stars is therefore not the end of our journey. It is an achievement that we want to build upon.

We will continue to invest in our facilities, maintain our food safety procedures and support our kitchen team in delivering the high standards our residents deserve.

Five Stars for The Victoria Grand

We are incredibly proud of our 5-Star Food Hygiene Rating and would like to thank everyone involved in achieving this fantastic result.

This achievement reflects a shared commitment to providing our residents with a safe, welcoming and high-quality environment.

Most importantly, it gives our residents and their families reassurance that when it comes to food safety, we are committed to maintaining very high standards every day.

For us, five stars isn’t simply a rating.

It is recognition of the care, attention and commitment that goes into every meal served at The Victoria Grand.

Frequently Asked Questions

The different types of care homes are residential homes, nursing homes, and specialist care homes, such as dementia care homes. Other types of residential care include assisted living and retirement villages.

The main difference between a residential home and a nursing home is that a nursing home has a qualified nurse on-site 24-hours a day to provide necessary medical care. This means nursing homes can provide a higher level of care.

If you or a loved one have moved into a care home but feel that you struggle to settle in, it is not the right fit or the location stops family from visiting regularly, you can change care homes. Make sure that you have read the terms of your contract to avoid any issues.

Depending on your financial circumstances and your care needs, you may be able to receive help with paying your care costs. If you have capital below a certain amount, which varies between countries in the UK, your local authority will contribute towards your fees. The NHS may cover your nursing care fees in some circumstances and there are a few benefits you can claim while living in a care home.
